The Ideal Leaky Gut Diet

A Leaky Gut Syndrome diet should work around the conditions responsible for the disorder, namely high intestinal permeability and absorption of partially digested food along with bacteria and viruses. Any food items in a leaky gut diet should not harm the lining of the intestines and prevent any existing damage from becoming worse.

Dietitians recommend that you choose foods that will not provoke an allergic reaction or irritate the gut mucosa, thereby worsening malabsorption and nutritional problems. In addition, if the foods have an antibacterial effect in the intestine, infections can become rarer.

The ideal leaky gut diet will include leeks, onion, garlic, mustard and unprocessed meat.  Other foods that are suitable include nuts, seeds, poultry and fresh fruit. Unless lactose intolerance exists, skim milk and low-fat yoghurt are allowed.
